WIFE’S ATTORNEY ACCUSES US REP. GRAYSON OF INTIMIDATION
A divorce lawyer for U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson’s wife says the congressman is trying to intimidate him. Attorney Mark Longwell said in a court filing Friday that Grayson had written him an email threatening litigation for comments Longwell made about the divorce proceedings earlier in the week. The email was an attempt to intimidate him and influence his counsel of Grayson’s wife, Lolita, Longwell said in the filing, which asks for a protective order prohibiting Grayson from “engaging in abusive behavior.”
PATROL CARS TORCHED IN MIAMI-DADE COUNTY
Police say two marked patrol cars were likely deliberately set on fire in the driveway of a home in Miami-Dade County. One of the cars set on fire early Friday belonged to Miami-Dade police. The other was a police cruiser from Hallandale Beach in nearby Broward County. Officers say the fire caused significant damage to the cars. Miami-Dade police are investigating.
WOMAN DRIVING WRONG WAY IN ST. PETE HITS PATROL CAR
Police say a wrong-way driver hit an officer in a marked patrol car in St. Petersburg. The crash happened early Friday morning as the officer was on routine patrol. Police say the officer tried to avoid the green Lexus but was unable to do so. Authorities say other driver, 21-year-old Madison Pratt Best, refused field sobriety and breath tests, but officers detected signs of impairment. After being checked out at a nearby hospital, Best was taken to jail and charged with driving under the influence.
BURGLARY SUSPECT SHOT AT JACKSONVILLE HOME
Jacksonville police say a teenage burglary suspect was wounded during a shootout with a police officer and a homeowner. The sheriff’s office reports that the 17-year-old boy has been released from the hospital where he was treated after Thursday’s shooting and charged with armed burglary. Police are still looking for a second suspect in the break-in. It wasn’t immediately clear who shot the teen’s shoulder.
MARINE WHO WAS HELD IN MEXICO CHARGED WITH DUI IN GEORGIA
Georgia authorities say a former Marine who spent eight months in a Mexican jail for crossing the border with loaded guns was arrested during a traffic stop on misdemeanor charges including driving under the influence. The Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office said in statement that police stopped 26-year-old Andrew Tahmooressi on Wednesday night. He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, improper passing and open container violation.
