CONGRESSMAN TO MEET WITH VETERANS ON HEALTH CARE
U.S. Rep. David Jolly will meet with local veterans to discuss health care at Veterans Affairs hospitals. Jolly is scheduled to meet with the veterans on Tuesday morning. Concerns over veterans’ care at VA facilities have been in the news recently. Some members of Florida’s congressional delegation – including Jolly – have asked local VA hospitals about wait times and secret waiting lists.
ALLIGATOR WARNING FOR CENTRAL FLORIDA CITY
Authorities in central Florida are warning residents about a nuisance alligator after a dog’s head was found in lake, and a second dog was attacked in the same area. Sebastian police announced the warning Monday. The dog head was found Friday at Lake Hardee Park. Police are telling resident to keep their pets under control until state wildlife officials can find the alligator.
CONVICTED FATAL HIT-AND-RUN DRIVER DIES IN CRASH
A central Florida man waiting to be sentenced on charges stemming from a fatal hit-and-run crash died in another crash over the weekend. The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 40-year-old Christopher John McCoy was driving west on Interstate 4 near Auburndale shortly after midnight Sunday when he rear-ended an SUV. His car spun off the road and flipped into a ditch. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
ZOO TO TALLY TWEETS TO NAME RARE RED-CROWNED CRANE
Tweeters are being given a chance to name a rare baby crane at the Palm Beach Zoo. The zoo will be counting tweets in a 24-hour period beginning Tuesday at 3 p.m. to determine what to call a red-crowned crane chick. The zookeeper has come up with three choices, each in Japanese to pay homage to the crane’s native habitat: Kaze, which means wind; Tobu, which means fly; and Kakashi, which means scarecrow.
CRIST, SCOTT AND 3 GOP CABINET MEMBERS ON BALLOT
Gov. Rick Scott and former Gov. Charlie Crist are now officially on the 2014 ballot. Crist, who was elected as a Republican, is now running as a Democrat. Both Scott and Crist qualified for the ballot Monday. Attorney General Pam Bondi, Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater and Agriculture Commissioner also qualified for re-election. The three incumbents are all Republicans.
