2 FLORIDA CHAPTERS OF CAIR MERGE
The two Florida chapters of the Council on American-Islamic Relations are merging into a single operation. CAIR officials in Florida said Wednesday they are merging their Tampa and South Florida operations into a single organization. The newly-named CAIR Florida also plans to open satellite offices in other cities in Florida. The group is an advocacy and civil rights champion for Muslims in Florida.
CAPTAIN CITRUS TO BECOME COMIC SUPERHERO
The Florida Department of Citrus is in the final stages of negotiations on a roughly $1 million contract with comic book publisher Marvel Worldwide Inc. to create a new Captain Citrus character to market orange juice to pre-teens and teens. Marvel will remake the current Captain Citrus – which is essentially a life-sized representation of an orange – into a buff superhero similar to his comic book and movie namesake.
FLORIDA SCHOOL BUS DRIVER FIRED FOR LETTING SON DRIVE
A 52-year-old school Hillsborough County school bus driver has been fired after an investigation found she let her son drive the vehicle without students on board. School officials voted Tuesday to fire Theresa Robinson after examining the video showing the young man driving.
MAN FOUND DEAD IN HOT TUB AT APARTMENT COMPLEX
Authorities are investigating the death of a man found in a hot tub at a Sarasota apartment complex. The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says a maintenance man found the body Wednesday morning while checking the pool area at the complex.
MIAMI HEAT LOOKING FOR REBOUND IN GAME 4
After being beaten by the San Antonio Spurs in Miami on Tuesday, the Miami Heat looks to rebound in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night at the American Airlines Arena. The Spurs lead the series 2-1, after a 111-92 victory.
