REWARD OFFERED FOR SHOTS FIRED AT PASCO DEPUTIES
Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is offering a $3,000 reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of whoever shot three bullets at two Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputies. The shots were fired early Sunday morning. The deputies were in separate vehicles when they heard bullets whiz past them around 3:30 a.m.
COLOMBIA-MIAMI FLIGHT DIVERTED TO JAMAICA
An American Airlines flight heading from Bogota, Colombia, to Miami has been diverted to Kingston, Jamaica, following a possible mechanical problem. American Airlines spokesman Casey Norton says Flight 916 was diverted Monday after a pilot reported a “pressurization” issue. The Boeing 767 landed safely without incident Monday evening. Ground crews would need to inspect the plane to determine what caused the issue, but Norton says oxygen masks did not deploy.
GOV. WANTS RESIDENTS TO HONOR FIRST RESPONDERS
Florida Gov. Rick Scott wants the state’s residents to thank and honor cops and firefighters and others who respond to emergencies. Scott on Monday proclaimed Jan. 5-9 as Florida First Responder Appreciation Week. He took the action in the wake of the recent killings of a Tarpon Springs police officer and a Leon County sheriff’s deputy.
PALM BEACH RACEWAY WORKER KILLED BY MOTORCYCLE
Authorities say a worker at the Palm Beach International Raceway was killed by an out-of-control motorcycle during a race. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports that Robert Hoffstetter was killed Sunday while working as a corner marshal during a Florida Track Days event. The racer later told investigators that the throttle on his bike became stuck in the open position, preventing him from being able to stop. As he approached a corner, he jumped into a grass area, leaving the motorcycle to continue down the track and into Hoffstetter.
JACKSONVILLE WOMAN ACCUSED OF ABANDONING CHILD
A woman is accused of abandoning her young child in a stranger’s car in Jacksonville. The incident happened Saturday afternoon in Jacksonville. Police say 20-year-old De’Janny Sha’maree Raggins jumped into the vehicle as the driver was pulling into a driveway. She quickly got out of the vehicle, leaving her daughter behind. She’s been charged with child neglect.
