Saltwater fishing regulations are still in force

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) wants everyone to know that even though some recreational and commercial saltwater fishing seasons have been temporarily extended and people can saltwater fish without a license on Father's Day weekend, all other Florida saltwater fishing regulations are still in effect.

Sen. LeMieux to Obama Administration: Where are Florida's skimmers?

U.S. Senator George LeMieux, R-FL, along with Senators Lisa Murkowski, R-AK, and Richard Burr, R-NC, sent a letter to President Obama June 18 requesting clarification on the status of foreign vessels taking part in gulf oil spill clean up efforts. In the letter, the senators address the confusion surrounding the Jones Act waiver requirement. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection states there are only 20 oil skimming vessels currently operating off the coast of Florida.

Jim Doughton, of the Gainesville Sun, passed the chairman's gavel of the Florida Press Association Board of Directors, to Sandi Kemp, publisher of the Navarre Press, during the annual FPA and FSNE Convention in Sarasota Friday. Kemp then became chairman of the FPA Board of Directors.
