New school year is off to a ‘good start’

Read more...Though administrators awaited the 2010-2011 school year with trepidation thanks to tougher class-size requirements, principals in the South End agree that the year got off to a good start.

According to David Crissey, vice principal at West Navarre Intermediate School, the first day was smooth sailing for the more than 750 students who walked in the school’s front doors at the start of the day.

Salter: Taxpayers wise to invest in military

 Local leaders’ failure to protect Eglin Air Force Base is at least partially to blame for the area’s losing 48 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters — and the 2,500 jobs and $615-million economic impact they were expected to bring with them to Northwest Florida, Santa Rosa County Commissioner Don Salter said Monday.

“I think this loss of those aircraft shows the importance of protecting your bases and understanding the value of protecting your fence lines like we try to do at Whiting Field,” Salter said.
