Melvin begins term as County Commissioner

Jim Melvin recently took his seat for his first formal meeting on the Board of County Commissioners. However, he had already begun serving the county prior to that and has established an office in the Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce building that he plans to use to meet with local constituents.

State officials release school grades

Florida High Schools posted their best school grades ever, thanks to a new system designed to judge schools on more than just standardized test grades, a report released Tuesday by the Florida Department of Education said.

However, the system has some schools missing the mark, while others made better-than-average gains.
