School resource officer funding is costly

Preliminary projected costs to place resource officers in all 33 public schools in Santa Rosa County would be an initial $3 million with estimated recurring costs of $2 million per year.

Larger Navarre Community Center planned by county commissioners

The Santa Rosa County Board of Commissioners are planning to sell the current Navarre Community Center, located at 1917 Navarre School Blvd., and pursue a larger facility to accommodate more people.

Hundreds of pets receive blessing

An estimated 650 pets, ranging from Great Danes to guinea pigs, were honored Sunday, April 7, in the annual Blessing of the Pets ceremony at Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.

Army Staff Sergeant Aaron Hale lost his eyes in Afghanistan when he approached an IED that exploded after first attempting to disable it from a distance using robots. That was December 8, 2011 and now, a year and almost four months later Hale is teaching at Eglin. At a ceremony held on Saturday, Hale and his family were gifted a home in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Tour de Cure for diabetes

More than 350 cyclists registered for the 5th annual Tour de Cure cycling event held April 6. Cyclists took part in one of three rides: a 62-mile; a 42-mile; or a 22-mile ride.
