Raiders T. J. Woodberry and Jay Warren brought home medals from the Florida High School Athletics Association weightlifting championship held Friday, April 19, in Kissimmee.
Woodberry had Navarre’s best finish; he placed fifth with a total of 490 pounds lifted (255 bench press and 235 clean-and-jerked). Xavier Gibson of Fort Walton Beach won the division with 550 pounds lifted.
Warren, who has committed to play football for Florida Atlantic University, finished sixth in the 199-pound weight division. He benched 355 pounds and cleaned 295 pounds, giving him 650-pound total. Kyle Sander of Vanguard also managed to lift 650 pounds, but he was awarded fifth place because he weighed less than Warren at weigh-in. Mark Anthony Miranda of Sebring won the division, with a 375-pound bench press and 315-pound clean-and-jerk.
Navarre’s Marvin Darby placed 10th in the 238-pound division (345-305 630) and Kody Kelley competed in the 169-pound division but failed to score because he did not have a successful bench press.
