Seven Raiders – Nicholas Benton, James Mullin, Elijah Appel, Trent Beck, Dominic Dudai, Tanner Wilcox and Miguel Villanueva – finished among the top four in their events Friday at the Florida High School Athletic Association District 1-3A Track and Field championships at Booker T. Washington High School in Pensacola, qualifying them for today’s Region 1-3A competition at Tallahassee Chiles High School.
No Navarre athlete or team won a district title. Benton, a senior who has committed to play football at Jacksonville University, finished second in both the long jump and triple jump; classmate James Mullin, who will run cross country for Saint Leo College near Tampa, finished third in the 800-meter run and as a member of the 4 x 800 relay team with Beck, Dudai and Wilcox. Appel, who hadn’t competed this season as a jumper before April, finished third in the triple jump (and sixth in the long jump). Miguel Villanueva qualified in the 400, also finishing in third place.
No girls finished in the top four, but Navarre did log five fifth-place finishers: Elle Crouse in the 800, Hannah Gullickson in the 300 hurdles and the Lady Raiders’ 4 x 100, 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relay teams.
