Lady Raiders win state
The Navarre High School girls' weightlifting team won the school’s first-ever team state championship Saturday, edging two-time defending champion Spruce Creek by one point, 24-23.
Amanda Friar, lifting in the 110-pound division, won Navarre's only individual championship, bench-pressing 160 pounds and clearing 145 pounds in the clean-and-jerk for a combined total of 305, which was 20 pounds better than second-place finisher Alex Hamilton from Clay High School in Green Cove Springs. Friar weighed in with a body weight of 108.2 pounds Saturday morning.
Five other Lady Raiders finished among the top six in their division to score team points for Navarre:
*Skye Barberi (119-pound weight division) finished second with a bench press of 170 pounds and a clean-and-jerk of 150 pounds for a combined total of 320 pounds.
*Praise Pettus (139) was second with 180-175 355. Other point-scorers included:
*Alyssa Jones (110), fourth, 120-155 275
*Kylie Shelley (119), fourth, 150-145 295
*Chelsea King (154), sixth, 160-160 320
The Lady Raiders had finished second at the state meet four of the past five seasons.
