It's official: Jay's an Owl!

2-8 WEB signing

Navarre High School football coach Jay Walls, right,  praises senior Jay Warren, left, Wednesday in the NHS Media Center while Warren looks anxious about what his coach might say.

Warren signed his official letter of intent to play football for Florida Atlantic University with Walls and many of his teammates, fellow students and family members gathered to celebrate his accomplishments. Warren, who rushed for more than 1,800 yards and scored 19 touchdowns as a senior and started at cornerback for the Raiders, was the only Navarre player to sign Feb. 6, the first day players could officially commit to college programs. Teammate Jordan Leggett, a wide receiver, was recruited by Clemson University and enrolled at the South Carolina school in January. Several other Raiders are expected to be offered football scholarships; defensive back Nick Benton has verbally committed to Jacksonville University and quarterback Andrew Rieves has received interest from Birmingham Southern and Huntingdon colleges in Alabama. Walls said he will organize another signing ceremony to recognize future signees.
