Jay Warren, Navarre High School’s standout running back, has committed verbally to play football at Florida Atlantic University.
Warren, who rushed for 1,832 yards and 19 touchdowns as a senior after playing defense most of his high school career, visited the Boca Raton campus this weekend and notified the Owls of his commitment Sunday. He announced his decision on Twitter: “Just got the call and just committed I’ll be taking my talents FAU.”
“After my visit, I just felt like it was home,” Warren said in published reports. “I’ve lived in that kind of environment my whole life and just felt completely comfortable being there. The players, even though I hadn’t committed yet, treated me like I was already on the team.”
He said the facilities, which include a new 30,000-seat stadium on the Atlantic coastline, and second-year coach Carl Pelini and his staff also played a role.
FAU is an NCAA Football Bowl Championship Series (formerly Division I) program in transition from the Sun Belt Conference to Conference USA.
