Raiders moving up?

Navarre High School's football Raiders could be moving up.

The Florida High School Athletic Association has released tentative class assignments for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. The Raiders, who had played in Class 6A, District 2 (District 2-6A) for the past two seasons, are projected to join Crestview, Niceville and Cantonment Tate in a new District 1-7A. Like Navarre, the other three teams played in Class 6A in 2011 and 2012.

FHSAA reassigns football classifications every two years according to enrollment. Class 7A is comprised of 87 teams with student populations between 1,872 and 2,240. Region 1 includes 20 schools divided into four districts; the winners and runners-up from each pair of districts compete in the first round of the playoffs. District 2-7A -- Navarre's potential playoff opponents -- includes Gainesville, which ended Navarre's playoff run this season, as well as Gainesville Buchholtz, Tallahassee Chiles, Ocala Forest, Tallahassee Leon and Tallahassee Lincoln.

Other area teams and their tentative assignments include:

District 1-6A -- Milton, Pace, Pensacola, Pensacola Escambia, Pensacola Pine Forest and Pensacola Washington.

District 2-6A -- Fort Walton Beach Choctawhatchee, Fort Walton Beach and Lynn Haven Mosley.

District 1-5A -- Gulf Breeze, Panama City Beach Arnold, Panama City Bay, Panama City Rutherford and Pensacola West Florida.

District 1-4A -- DeFuniak Springs Walton, Havana East Gadsden, Marianna, Tallahassee Florida High, Tallahassee Godby

District 1-3A -- Jacksonville Bishop Snyder, Jacksonville Episcopal, Jacksonville Providence, Jacksonville Trinity Christian, Pensacola Catholic and St. Augustine St. Joseph.

District 1-1A -- Baker, Bratt Northview, Freeport and Jay.
