Milton outscores Navarre

Gatlin Casey prepares to shoot a free throw.

First-year Navarre coach Klint Lay knows his basketball team is a work in progress.

“We are a young team and are going through some growing pains,” Lay said after his team dropped a 59-43 home contest to the Milton Panthers on Friday, Dec. 14. “We have a team full of great kids this year and as many as five players have just joined the basketball team from the Raiders’ history-making Final Four football team."

The Raiders’ 2012-13 boys’ team includes just two seniors – starting forward Jean Quinones and reserve forward Rasheed Williams. The balance of the team is juniors and sophomores. The youth of the team – and the fact that as team – showed against the Panthers.

“The talented football players have to get into basketball shape,” Lay said. "They are very coachable."
