Raiders’ boys runners finish second at Pace

James Mullin and Trent Beck led Navarre High School’s boys’ cross country team to a second-place finish in a 10-team field Tuesday at Pace. Mullin finished the course fifth overall in 17 minutes, 4 seconds, and Beck was seventh in 17:15.

Washington won the team title with a meet-low 48 points. Navarre had 53, followed by Pace with 83.

“We should become very competitive in the next four weeks with the beginning of our speed work,” coach Tom Lintz said. “We will be looking for our times to drop well into the 16-minute range and be working to peak for the state series that begins Nov. 3 and finishes with the class 3A finals on Nov. 17.”

Jonah Griego finished 11th for the Raiders in 17:41, Chris Barbee was 14th in 17:52 and Tanner Wilcox was 16th in 17:55.

The Raiders are scheduled to compete in the J.D. Mac Invitational at 8:45 a.m. Saturday in Jay. The girls’ varsity team races at 8 a.m.
