A whole new start for Navarre volleyball team in 2011

Shamani Booker Danielle Pearl and Kyndal CunninhgamThe girls’ volleyball team is about to undergo a total makeover next season.

Last year, the Navarre High School varsity volleyball team placed second in the district, but were eliminated early in the playoffs.

This fall’s team will face a number of challenges. Perhaps the biggest is that Liz Berry will not be the coaching the team this season.

Another challenge is that the team has been decimated by graduation.  In addition, two new teams, B.T. Washington and Pensacola, have joined the district. The new coach will also not have several seniors on the team to provide leadership for the younger players. The only senior on this year’s team is middle-hitter Kyndal Cunningham.

On the positive side, setter Danielle Pearl and outside hitter Shamani ‘Mani’ Booker are two experienced juniors who are expected to make important contributions as well as providing leadership. With so many new players and a new coach, there will be a learning curve before the group starts to play together.
