One of the main strengths of Navarre’s Lady Raiders this season has been a solid defense. But last week after chalking up a cake walk 10-0 win at Pensacola Catholic Monday, the error gremlins reared their ugly heads in the form of 10 miscues in home losses to Kentucky’s Owensboro Catholic and Fort Walton Beach.
The loss to Owensboro, 4 – 0 on April 7, featured an outstanding pitching performance by the Ace’s top hurler, Andrea McBride. Although not overpowering, striking out only one Raider, McBride was precise in her ability to hit the corners of the strike zone causing Navarre hitters to send lazy fly balls to the outfield or grounders straight to infielders. Navarre was only able to garner two hits against McBride, a sixth inning single to left by Chandler Bridges and a two out seventh inning double to the wall by Sarah Beth Marquis. Catholic scored in the first on two infield errors, a stolen base and an infielders choice enough to get the win.
