It has been at least five years since Navarre won a soccer contest with Gulf Breeze, but on Jan 8 they did win at the Dolphin’s stadium.
“I know we have tied them during the last five years but we never actually won one,” Coach Jeff Knapp said. “I’m really proud of this team.”
The game was decided with 18 minutes to go in the game. Mitch Hagood took a pass from Brendon Robas near midfield. He moved forward, spotted Steven Householder and passed to him on the right side of the field. Householder then passed to Ryan Brazelton streaking down the left side of the field. Brazelton made a move and suddenly was in the box with a half step lead on the nearest defender. As Brazelton was about to take a shot at the goal, he was tripped by a Dolphin defender. The referee’s whistle blew as Brazelton sprawled to the ground five yards inside the box. The Raiders were awarded a penalty kick.
