Roy Jones Jr. and Danny Santiago will fight Oct. 7 at the Pensacola Civic Center.
Jones, 41, a Pensacola native, hopes to extend his hall-of-fame-worthy career against Santiago, 37, a gym owner from Ocala who was among the boxers featured in the short-lived reality show “The Contender,” which aired on ESPN in 2007.
Neither fighter pretends the bout to fill a vacant regional cruiserweight title is more than an opportunity to keep boxing.
With a win, Santiago could earn a chance to fight for a cruiserweight title.
