Winning a Kickoff Classic doesn’t count toward a team’s overall won-and-lost record, but when Navarre held on to beat visiting Pace 22-19 Aug. 27, it had special meaning. It marked the first time that the Raiders have ever beaten the Patriots on the gridiron.
Like most “kickoff classic” exhibition games, the varsity squads faced each other for the final two quarters, which Navarre won, 14-13, and the junior varsity played the second quarter, an 8-6 Navarre advantage.
The freshmen teams slugged it out to a 0-0 standstill with neither team able to penetrate into the other’s 20-yard “red zone.”
