Teachers, state workers get raises as Florida passes largest budget in history

The 2013 legislative session is a wrap, and Florida now has the largest budget in its history at $74.1 billion dollars, of which $30 billion comes from federal sources.  Governor Rick Scott made $368 million line item vetoes to the budget before signing into law as the General Appropriations Act, which takes effect July 1.

'Cool' idea raises money for good cause

Donating to a good cause can now be as easy as buying a bag of ice. An ice machine located in front of Century 21 Island View Realty in Navarre has been bought by Horizons-The Arc of the Emerald Coast, which is an advocacy organization based in Fort Walton Beach for citizens of all ages with disabilities such as downs syndrome, cerebral palsy, austime and spin bifida. All proceeds from the ice machine will go to funding...

Tropical Storm Andrea bearing down on Fla.

Heavy rain was pouring across much of the Florida peninsula early Thursday as Tropical Storm Andrea headed toward Florida's peninsula. Tropical storm warnings were in effect from Boca Grande to Indian Pass on Florida's coast and along the east coast up to Virginia.  Maximum sustained winds were 60 mph. Landfall is expected in Florida's Big Bend area Thursday. It was not expected to strengthen into a hurricane.
