Threats against high school unsubstantiated

On March 13, the Santa Rosa County sheriff office was made aware of rumors circulating about possible threats that would occur at Navarre High School. Deputies have been diligently working to dispel the rumors according to Sgt. Scott Haines with the sheriff’s office. Haines reported that at the present time, nothing has been substantiated; however, the decision was made to place additional deputies at the high school today for cautionary purposes. Haines stressed that no threats have been directly received against the school, but the situation is being closely monitored.

Fire on Mary Kitchens Road

UPDATE

The fire on Mary Kitchen Road in Milton is fully contained at 80 acres. Florida Forest Service firefighters will be on scene mopping up hot spots and will continue to monitor for the coming days.

Florida Forest Service crews are gaining ground on the 80-acre Mary Kitchens Fire. High winds and soggy terrain are hampering efforts but three tractor/plow units, two brush trucks, a helicopter and a fixed wing airplane are on scene as well as crews from Bagdad, Avalon, Skyline, Pace and Midway fire departments and are making good progress.

Five structures were threatened at the onset of the fire but have been secured.

Mary Kitchens Road is closed at this time and crews will remain on scene.
