The Fort Pickens fishing pier will close from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on March 15, Friday, for routine maintenance according to Gulf Island National Seashore Superintendent Dan Brown.
The closure extends 25 yards in all directions from the pier including the water, according to the news release.
During this time, National Park Service divers will evaluate fisheries, remove invasive species, trash, debris and fishing line from the pier structure.
“The Fort Pickens fishing pier is very popular,” Brown said. “These cleanups are designed to provide a cleaner and healthier environment for both the public on the pier, and the marine life beneath the pier. We regret the temporary inconvenience, but that is far outweighed by the benefits.”
