UPDATED: Gov. Scott suspends Okaloosa commissioner

 James Campbell

Florida Gov. Rick Scott has suspended James F. Campbell, 64, as District 5 Okaloosa County Commissioner, effective immediately.

According to the press release, Campbell was arrested on four counts of official misconduct and four counts of perjury.

The charges stem from a four-month long investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Pensacola Regional Operations Center.

According to a press release, FDLE began the investigation in May after receiving information that Campbell was being paid to recruit sponsors for a local festival and then not disclosing that income on State of Florida Commission on Ethics forms.

An arrest warrant was issued by FDLE against Campbell today, Sept. 17.

In addition to being suspended as county commissioner, Scott has ordered that Campbell is “prohibited from performing any official act, duty, or function of public office; from receiving any pay or allowance; and from being entitled to any of the emoluments or privileges of public office during the period of this suspension, which period shall be from today, until a further Executive Order is issued, or as otherwise provided by law.”
