Gulf Breeze man dies from wreck injuries

 

Kenneth Kennedy, 80, of Gulf Breeze died on Aug. 28 from injuries sustained in a July 19 vehicle accident at U.S. Highway 98 and Sanibel Lane in Gulf Breeze.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, Kennedy was traveling south on Sanibel approaching U.S. 98.

William Means, 36, of San Diego, Calif., was traveling west on U.S. 98 in the inside lane approaching the intersection of Sanibel.

Kennedy was stopped at a stop sign and then pulled out into traffic, according to FHP.

Means swerved into the left turning lane to avoid a collision, but the front of his vehicle collided with the front of Kennedy’s vehicle on the driver’s side.

Kennedy was transported to Baptist Hospital with critical injuries. He died at 8:45 a.m. Aug. 28.

Means and his passenger, Ida Means, 70, were taken to Baptist Hospital for minor injuries.

FHP reported that the crash has been assigned to the FHP Traffic Homicide Unit for further investigation. Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
