Charges against Slye dismissed

All charges against Dorothy Slye, manager of the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, were dismissed June 15, according to Assistant State Attorney James Parker.

According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office report, Slye was arrested on April 29 for domestic violence battery, a misdemeanor, and one felony count of tampering with a witness or victim because she prevented the person from dialing 911.

When officers arrived on the scene, the victim said that upon arriving home, Slye was throwing the victim’s personal items outside of the residence in Summerwind Towers and into the walkway. The report states that when the victim attempted to use a cell phone to call 911, Slye “lunged at (redacted) and grabbed the cell phone, knocking (redacted) to the ground.”

Parker said the charges were dismissed for a number of reasons.

“I looked at the case and the defendant has no prior record, the victim has no injuries and he requested all charges be dropped,” Parker explained.

The victim stated that when he was attempting to dial, Slye thought he was trying to call a third-party, not emergency services. The victim’s statement supported Slye’s account.

Parker said the case is now closed.
