Holley-Navarre and Midway Fire Districts responded about 3 p.m. to a house fire on Aurora Street in Holley by the Sea.
The small fire began in the kitchen but was extinguished before it caused any major damage. No smoke or flames could even be seen from the street. The homeowner said she stepped away from frying okra in the kitchen for just a second to check on her dogs in the backyard and when she returned the pan had caught on fire.
“This is the first time I’ve ever had to call the fire department,” she said.
Her dogs were safe in the backyard and her African Grey parrot Odie followed his owner out of the house.
