Dead man found at Surfside Storage identified

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office was called early Friday morning when a man was found dead in his vehicle at Surfside Storage on Navarre Parkway.

Raymond Wells Jr., 50, of Navarre was pronounced dead when investigators arrived on scene.

Sgt. Scott Haines, sheriff's department public information officer, said someone called 911 after noticing a man slumped over his vehicle in the parking lot. Wells' vehicle engine was running and was still in reverse when officers arrived. The caller told deputies he called out to Wells several times because his driver's side window was down, but he didn't respond.

Haines said an autopsy showed no visible signs of trauma.

"We're working it as a death investigation. It's very early, we're treating it as a death investigation. Nothing jumps out as suspicious," he said.

The investigation is still pending until the medical examiner has completed a report.
