Post office starts special campaign to boost military

  As the heat index rises to unbearable temperatures and gusts of wind create mini-sand storms, members of the United States military don’t anticipate much when deploying to Iraq.

 Consistently surrounded by other military personnel, lightning-fast explosives detonating and sometimes death, mail day just might be the highlight of the week.

“It’s a big deal to get something from back home,” said 1st Lieutenant Jeremy Coffman, 1st Special Operations Communications Squadron at Hurlburt Field. “It really lets you know they are thinking of you when you’re gone.

To honor those who are serving the country, the United States Postal Service has created a campaign that will make it cheaper for people to send packages overseas. “Honoring Those Who Served” promotes the sale of the large flat rate box, which is now $10.95, a $2 savings. The parcel boasts a “we support you” graphic in red, white and blue.

“It’s the post office’s way of letting family members and the troops know we support them,” said Katrina Walls, station manager of the Navarre Post Office. “We are doing our part as a team to support those efforts of our troops.”
