Two Navarre men were arrested and charged Jan. 25 with stealing guns from a residence and then selling them.

According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office press release, the owner of the guns found someone had entered his home on Vineyard St. and had stolen five firearms around 6 p.m. He told deputies that he suspected an acquaintance of stealing his firearms.

Wolfgang Sasser, 18, was then contacted by the deputies and admitted to stealing the firearms. Eric Welch, 25, had assisted him with the theft and had agreed to sell the guns for Sasser.

Deputies found the guns hidden in bushes and underneath a vacant trailer near Welch’s home on Toledo St. in Navarre. One of the firearms had already been sold. Deputies recovered the shotgun.

Welch, who was convicted for a weapons offense in 2010, was arrested for five counts of grand theft of a firearm, four counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and one count of dealing in stolen property. Sasser was charged with grand theft of a firearm and dealing in stolen property, the release said.
