Gulf Breeze man dies from car accident injuries

A Gulf Breeze man died Jan. 25 after a car accident sent him to the hospital Jan. 24.

Howard M. Carroll, 77, was exiting West Village Complex on State Road 296, west of Valley Escondido Drive, around 11:30 a.m. Monday, according to a Florida Highway Patrol press release.

Keith R. Clanton, 43, of Pensacola, was traveling on the inside, westbound lane of SR 296, approaching the driveway of the complex when Carroll attempted to make a left turn in his 2002 Ford pick-up truck. Clanton’s vehicle hit the driver’s side of Carroll’s car.

Carroll was taken to Baptist Hospital where he later died from injuries sustained during the crash.

Clanton was treated for minor injuries at Sacred Heart Hospital. Both men were wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
