Have a fire extinguisher available in your home.

Check it regularly to make sure it is charged. When using an extinguisher, use the PASS method: Pull the pin. Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire. Squeeze the trigger lever. Sweep the stream side-to-side at the base of the fire.
