Navarre fishermen win national tourney

Local fisherman catch a 61.9-pound King mackerel during the Southern King Association (SKA) National Fishing Tournament in Biloxi.

A group of local fisherman had the honor of catching the largest fish in this year’s Southern King Association (SKA) National Fishing Tournament in Biloxi.

The 61.9-pound King mackerel along with another 42-pounder also landed the team first place in the tournament’s small boat division with their 23-foot Onslow Bay boat.

The Strike Two Fishing Team of Navarre was made up of Rob Lupola, Ray Martinez, Jason Spratley, Ken Odom and Mike Henke.

“It was 90-percent luck, but we had a very good game plan and did our homework,” Lupola said. “A teammate reeled it in and we didn’t realize how big it was until we got it in the boat. It’s by far the biggest I’ve ever caught.”
