It’s summertime, and the livin’ is itchy - especially if you spend time outside during dusk or dawn.
The best ways to avoid mosquito bites are to stay out of mosquito-infested areas, wear protective clothes, and use insect repellant.
According to the EPA, correct use of products containing DEET is not a health concern, while “natural” repellants may not always be safe alternatives, especially if used in high concentrations. Best practice is to always follow the label instructions and use only repellants approved by the EPA. Also avoid repellants combined with sunscreens. Because sunscreens are designed to be used frequently and liberally, too much repellant may be applied even when the product is used as directed. It’s best to apply sunscreen first, then add repellant to be sure each product works correctly.
