Goodin blasts BP, Coast Guard on oil spill response

Enough is enough, Santa Rosa County Commission Chairman Gordon Goodin said Friday of BP and U.S. Coast Guard efforts to protect the Gulf Coast from oil and natural gas spewing from the ocean’s bottom.

“To say this is mismanagement is being about as polite as I can be,” Goodin said at a joint press conference with Gulf Breeze City Councilman Dana Morris at Shoreline Park South at the tip of Fairpoint Peninsula. “If they can’t manage this, implement the National Incident Management System and let us run it the way it should be run.”

An explosion April 20 aboard the Deepwater Horizon mobile oil platform killed 11 people, destroyed the rig and left a burst pipe at the ocean’s bottom spewing millions of gallons of oil and natural gas into the Gulf of Mexico southeast of Louisiana.

BP, the multinational corporation built on petroleum harvesting and processing, has accepted responsibility for the accident. It is leading efforts to control the oil flow; clean oil from sea and land; and to pay “all legitimate claims” for financial reimbursement of losses caused by the disaster.
