County: Waiting on pins and needles

            County and state officials spoke to a packed room Wednesday afternoon, offering assurance to residents and business owners that once the oil washes along Santa Rosa County shores, action will be taken.

Members, as well as the public, were invited to attend the Gulf Breeze Chamber of Commerce's Government Affairs meeting June 2, for an update on actions being taken by the state, as well as the county, in regards to oil "product," which is expected to make landfall in Florida sometime this week.

"This is what's six miles off our shores now," said Dave Symanski, a Santa Rosa County official, holding up a photo of a 3-foot-long "oil pancake." "This is what we call an oil crepe, or pancake. We've got fast boats who are out there looking for this stuff. And what they're going to do, is circle it and coral it, so we can skim it up."
