Santa Rosa County will see a piece of the $25 million advertising grant awarded to Florida in order to boost tourism, which took a nose-dive since the Deepwater Horizon oil-rig explosion in April.

On May 17, BP provided tourism grants in the amount of $25 million to Florida and $15 million each to Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana – the states most affected by the oil spill.

Last week, officials learned that the county would be awarded $500,000 directly for advertising efforts over the next 45 days. It is half of the $1 million requested.
