Feinberg promises timely turnaround for claims

When Ken Feinberg, the newly appointed administrator for the BP claims operation, takes over on Monday, he promises timely turnarounds and new considerations for those wishing to file claims against the oil giant for losses incurred as a result of the April 20 Deepwater Horizon explosion that prompted the worst oil spill in the nation’s history.

Oil spill claims forum to be held in Pensacola

Ken Feinberg, the Independent Administrator of the Deepwater Horizon Victims Compensation Fund, will headline a community forum in Pensacola on Tuesday, Aug. 10, hosted by U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. The forum will provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions and receive input from Feinberg on his vision for improving the claims processing.

The forum will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the University of West Florida Conference Center at 11000 University Parkway, in Building 22.

“We need to make sure folks get the help they need,” said Sen. Nelson.  “This will give the community an opportunity to learn more about the claims process and voice any concerns.”  

The event is free and open to the public, however reservations are required.  Those wishing to attend should contact Mallory Wilson at the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce no later than 4 p.m. Aug. 9, at (850)438-4081 to reserve a seat.

Tropical activity in Gulf causes boom removal

The State Emergency Response Team, in coordination with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), today announced the removal of supplemental Tier 3 boom within the next 72 to 96 hours in the Panhandle counties. The removal is in light of the potential tropical activity in the Gulf of Mexico.

Senate panel pobe oil spill economics

With a mounting economic crisis following in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, the Senate's Select Committee on the Economy will begin meeting in early July to consider action to assist affected businesses, individuals and local governments. The initial meeting will be held July 12 in Pensacola, the area of the state hit first and worst by the spill.
