Wreaths Across America: Lest we forget

Zak-for-Wreaths-HQ

A woman sits on the edge of the bed with a letter in her hand dated March 17, 1944. Her hand trembles as she carefully opens the envelope.

“My Sweet Darling….” it begins. Tears slide down her cheek, softly hitting the page, blurring the ink on the paper. A bittersweet moment because the young man she had married three years earlier died seven days after the letter was written. His body lays at rest in Plot B Row 9 Grave 135 at the Manila American Cemetery. She remembers still…

On Dec. 15, wreaths will be placed on grave sites that mark the resting spot for airmen, soldiers, sailors and marines in the annual Wreaths across America event.
