If you are walking or running on the Navarre Beach path, Maggie Roberts will probably introduce herself and ask you about your passion for walking or running. That would happen even if she wasn’t the director for the Galloway Emerald Coast Getting Started program, because Roberts is in love with running.
Roberts’ father had polio and she never saw him run; her mother struggled with obesity. So, she did not grow up in a fitness-centered family. Neither did she develop the running habit in college or as a wife and mother.
“I started walking around my neighborhood,” she explained. “When you have a job and family, there is little time to escape to a gym. I mostly did it for my own sanity. But I couldn’t really do the running part; it was too hard on my feet.”
