A particularly rainy spring and summer has given way to a bevy of bothersome pests troubling Navarre residents this year, the most maddening of which are mosquitoes.
These buzzing beasts are the bane of summer but can pack a punch much more than mere annoyance.
Mosquitoes can carry diseases such as West Nile virus and several types of encephalitis. Many who are infected with WNV show no symptoms; while 20 percent will go on to develop the more serious West Nile fever. Symptoms of West Nile fever include headache, high fever, stiff neck, confusion, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness and paralysis.
