Blood supply low nationally, not regionally

Recently, the U.S. Red Cross made national news when it reported that its blood supply had fallen to "emergency levels", but here in Northwest Florida, donations are high and new donors are coming into Northwest Florida Blood Services daily to help save lives.

“We don’t have a shortage right now,” said Betty Roberts, district director marketing and communications for Northwest Florida Blood Services. “But we must be vigilant every day.”

Blood donations typically drop in the summer, when donors are out of town, vacationing and when school is out and high schools cannot hold regularly scheduled blood drives.

“We are working diligently, contacting donors and working with the community to help encourage new donors,” Roberts said.
