Phelps brings history to life for students

Tonya Overholtz-Phelps, Holley-Navarre Middle School’s Teacher of the Year, always heard that teaching history was like telling a good story.

“And people love a good story,” she said.

Phelps has taught at HNMS for eight years. This year she is teaching reading and world history, but she also has taught eighth-grade American history. She said she was honored to be nominated by her peers and to see her students so excited for her when the award was announced.
