Education Union, district at odds over policy

Union, district at odds over policy

Despite evidence to the contrary, Santa Rosa County School District officials have said they will not bargain with the teacher’s union over the district’s acceptable-use policy, which is said to be overly restrictive of educators.

At a meeting last week, school board officials engaged in a heated debate on the issue and agreed that the district would re-write the policy rather than bargain with the teacher’s union, as the district had previously indicated it would.

“We will continue to move on and develop policies that protect our teachers and staff,” said Tim Wyrosdick, the district’s superintendent,  “but unless it is required by law, we are not going to bargain on this issue.”
