In what was dubbed a "historic" and "monumental" occasion, Pensacola State College broke ground on a highly-anticipated new campus project in Santa Rosa County Tuesday.

The expansive campus, situated on 110 acres just off U.S. Highway 98, near Woodlawn Beach Middle School, will feature a multi-level mixed use building that will house classrooms, laboratories, a school store, a library as well as administrative offices.

Formerly known as Pensacola Junior College, or PJC, the Chairman of the Board of the Trustees said though the name has changed, the school's mission hasn't – and that was represented in Tuesday's ceremony.
