Florida Department of Business announces free app

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation has announced that it has developed the first free smartphone app for a Florida state agency.
The app was developed to allow consumers to search for state licenses by name or license number. According to department Press Secretary Sandi Copes, the idea was developed by DBPR Secretary Charlie Liem.
“He wanted to be sure a lot of this valuable information, which is available on our website, was available to people so they could access it from anywhere,” Copes said.
The app is for iPhones and Androids and will enable people to check instantaneously whether an individual has a business or professional license in the State of Florida. This was important to the department because they knew their customers were changing, according to Liem in a press release.
“These apps will help us answer questions faster and be more responsive to our customers who are on the go,” Liem said.
In addition to licensing information, both apps will also feature the department’s weekly newsletter, which includes a message from Liem and important announcements from the department. A second version with additional tools is in development, according to Copes.
This is also the first free app for a Florida department.
“Florida is a state that excels at transparency and ease of access so we absolutely wanted to have it be free to continue and improve upon that transparency and accessibility,” Copes said.
The apps area available in their respective marketplaces.
