It all began with a Raggedy-Ann doll. In 1947, the wife of Maj. Bill Hendrix, U.S. Marine Corps, made a Raggedy-Ann doll and asked him to find an organization to donate the doll. His attempts to find one failed and she asked, “Why don’t you create one.”
On Nov. 23 the Gulf Breeze Zoo will give free entrance for Zoo Lights to anyone that brings a new unwrapped toy. Local drop off sites are the Gulf Breeze Zoo, Holley by the Sea Homeowners Association, the Gulf Breeze Flea Market, Walgreens, and Arrington’s Home Furnishings, among many others. Distribution dates are Dec. 17-18 for Escambia County and Dec. 19 for Santa Rosa County.
