Instead of making of formal decision, Santa Rosa County Commissioners will leave the policing of the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier up to the fishermen.
The issue of shark fishing was first brought up at the June 11 commissioner meeting following a complaint about fisherman beaching a large shark on Memorial Day weekend. Neighboring piers, including Pensacola and Okaloosa piers, ban shark fishing from the pier. However, commissioners seemed to agree on a compromise June 11 that would prohibit fishermen from beaching a shark from May-September to avoid peak tourism season.
