Community Amendment could cut county revenue

Amendment could cut county revenue

Florida’s proposed Amendment 10 would provide a new exemption for tangible personal property if it passes.

The Florida Constitution, Article VII, section 1, grants local governments the authority to levy ad valorem (property) taxes and establish guidelines the state legislature and local government must follow when levying and administering ad valorem taxes.

Greg Brown, Santa Rosa County property appraiser, told the commissioners during a Sept. 10 meeting that if the amendment passes, the county could lose more than $171,000 a year.
